Walt Disney Imagineering has filed two set installation permits for the new Indiana Jones ride Animal Kingdom attraction that will replace DINOSAUR, marking significant progress towards the 2027 opening. The permits, filed for 501 Restaurantosaurus Road, confirm work is moving forward on the centrepiece attraction of the new Tropical Americas land.
What work is covered by the permits?
The permits contract Adirondack Scenic and Scenario companies to handle set installation for the Indiana Jones attraction. Both permits are valid for one year, indicating Disney expects the installation work to be completed within that timeframe.
The new attraction will utilise the same track system as the current DINOSAUR ride, which is nearly identical to the Indiana Jones Adventure attractions at Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. This approach allows Disney to transform the experience whilst keeping the existing ride infrastructure largely intact.
How will the building change for Indiana Jones?
Disney plans to add a Maya temple facade to the front of the current Dino Institute building to create the new Indiana Jones attraction entrance. The permits filed at 501 Restaurantosaurus Road confirm this is the same location currently occupied by DINOSAUR.
Specific details of what set pieces will be installed remain unconfirmed at this stage. The permits provide the framework for the work but don't detail the individual elements being added to create the Indiana Jones experience.
When will Tropical Americas Disney Animal Kingdom 2027 open?
Disney has confirmed that Tropical Americas will open in 2027, but the specific opening date within that year remains unconfirmed. The land transformation represents one of the most significant changes to Animal Kingdom since the park opened, replacing the entire DinoLand U.S.A. area.
The DINOSAUR replacement Indiana Jones attraction will serve as the headline ride for the new themed land. Disney has not yet announced when DINOSAUR will close to begin the transformation work, though the filing of installation permits suggests the timeline is progressing as planned.
What does this mean for Animal Kingdom guests?
The DinoLand USA transformation Animal Kingdom represents a complete reimagining of that section of the park. Guests will eventually have access to a new Indiana Jones experience that utilises familiar ride technology in a completely different setting.
