Work crews at Disney's Hollywood Studios have continued adding details to a vintage Walt Disney Studios billboard on the theatre housing The Little Mermaid show. The retro signage is part of the Animation Courtyard transformation scheduled for completion this summer.
The billboard design, which reads "Walt Disney Studios - Mickey Mouse and Silly Symphony Sound Cartoons", appears on a large white rectangular space on the theatre's exterior wall. This location previously featured signage for Voyage of the Little Mermaid before its removal earlier this year.
What details have been added to the billboard?
Since yesterday, painters have filled in lettering for several key words including "studios", "Mickey Mouse", "and", and "sound cartoons". The musical staff element has also been completed.
The design recreates an original billboard from Disney's Hyperion Studio, where the company produced films between 1926 and 1940. Historical photographs from D23 show the authentic billboard that inspired this recreation.
When will the Animation Courtyard transformation complete?
The reimagined area will reopen as Walt Disney Studios Courtyard this summer, though specific dates remain unconfirmed. The transformation includes additional green spaces and decorative pavement featuring character autographs and handprints.
Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! will open on 26th May, whilst The Magic of Disney Animation will follow at a later date. The theatre itself will be renamed the Studio Theatre as part of the changes.
What else is changing in Animation Courtyard?
The Magic of Disney Animation will house several new experiences when it opens. Guests will meet characters, participate in drawing sessions hosted by Olaf, and enjoy an Alice in Wonderland themed playground.
The drawing experience represents a shift from the previous format which featured live artists demonstrating animation techniques. The character meet and greet opportunities will expand the attraction's appeal to younger visitors.
The Little Mermaid - A Musical Adventure continues its regular performance schedule throughout the construction work. The show remains unaffected by the courtyard transformation.
