The transformation of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster into a Muppets themed attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is continuing to move forward, with three new Notices of Commencement now officially filed.
New Electrical and Signage Work Filed
According to Orange County records, the new permits were filed on January 30, 2026, and cover a mix of electrical and signage work tied to the upcoming retheme.
Two of the filings relate specifically to electrical work, with Solotech and Elite A/V Producers named as contractors. Both companies are well known for advanced show control systems, including audio, video, and lighting, suggesting behind the scenes progress on the ride’s updated technical elements.
The third permit names Sign Producers Inc. and explicitly states the work is to “install signage,” pointing towards new interior and exterior signage that will align the attraction with its Muppets makeover.
Ongoing Construction Activity
These latest filings follow an earlier Notice of Commencement submitted on January 7, 2026, for the installation of set elements. That permit came shortly after a similar filing involving Imagineering contractor Mecca Productions, who are also currently working on the Indiana Jones retheme of DINOSAUR at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
With multiple contractors now involved across sets, show systems, and signage, work on the retheme appears to be ramping up steadily.
Transition From Aerosmith to The Muppets
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith is scheduled to close on March 2, 2026, with the final day to ride set for March 1. The new version, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, is expected to open in Summer 2026.
The attraction’s pre show area has already been boarded up, indicating that construction may continue even while the ride remains operational in its current form.
What to Expect From the New Storyline
In the reimagined experience, Scooter’s uncle, J.P. Grosse, has purchased G Force Records and signed Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. Guests will be invited on a VIP tour where they encounter familiar Muppet faces, including Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, before racing across town with help from Muppet Labs to make it to a high energy Electric Mayhem concert.
With permits now filed across multiple areas of the project, the Muppets are clearly getting ready to take centre stage at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
