Another Disney's Hollywood Studios water tower removal has taken place as the former Muppets Courtyard continues its dramatic transformation into Monstropolis. The iconic water tower that once adorned Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano has been completely removed, marking another significant milestone in the ambitious Monsters, Inc. themed land construction project.
What's Being Removed in the Monstropolis Construction Project?
The latest Hollywood Studios construction update reveals that Disney Imagineers have dismantled the decorative water tower from the corner of Mama Melrose's distinctive brick facade. This Italian restaurant, which closed permanently last year, is being completely reimagined as Harryhausen's from Monsters, Inc., featuring an eye-catching exterior design with giant chopsticks holding an eyeball.
This marks the second water tower removal in recent weeks, following another tower's demolition near the same area. The systematic removal of these structures demonstrates the extensive nature of the Monstropolis Disney World redevelopment, which will completely transform the visual landscape of this section of Disney's Hollywood Studios.
How Many Water Towers Remain in the Construction Zone?
Currently, two water towers still stand within the construction area. The water tower atop Gonzo's Royal Flush (the area's restroom facilities) will remain as part of the new themed land, though it's currently surrounded by scaffolding whilst undergoing significant re-theming work to fit the Monsters, Inc. aesthetic.
A second tower, located at the far end of PizzeRizzo, remains barely visible behind construction barriers. According to official Monstropolis concept art, this structure will also be removed and replaced with a new tower in a different location to better serve the land's immersive storytelling.
What Other Changes Are Happening in the Former Muppets Area?
The transformation extends far beyond water tower removals. Construction crews have stripped exterior brickwork from Gonzo's Royal Flush, revealing white panelling and steel framing beneath the scaffolding. This intensive renovation work suggests the building will receive a completely new exterior treatment.
The former MuppetVision 3D theatre is also undergoing substantial modifications to become The Glob, as depicted in Disney's concept artwork. Workers continue preparing the building's facade for new marquee signage and decorative elements that will transport guests into the world of Monstropolis.
