Disney Springs pin theft arrest sees Miami mother charged after using daughter to steal $2,030 worth of merchandise
A 52-year-old Miami woman has been arrested and charged with grand theft after using her underage daughter to steal Disney pins worth $2,030 (approximately £1,600) from stores at Disney Springs. Ivette Perez was detained on April 12, though the year remains unconfirmed, following incidents at Disney's Pin Traders and the World of Disney Store.
What happened during the Disney Springs pin theft?
Employees at Disney's Pin Traders witnessed Perez's juvenile daughter stealing Disney pins from the store. One employee reported seeing the girl take approximately 15 pins, whilst another observed her stealing around 40 pins.
During the theft, Perez asked store staff for a clear plastic bag. The girl then left the store without paying for the merchandise and was subsequently detained at the nearby World of Disney Store.
When questioned by authorities, Perez admitted she knew her daughter was stealing and acknowledged she did not have sufficient money to pay for the items. She also showed investigators text messages in which she instructed her daughter to hurry up with the theft and return to the car.
What charges does Ivette Perez face?
Perez has been charged with third-degree grand theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She entered a not guilty plea when the case appeared before Orange Circuit Court.
The total value of stolen merchandise found in possession of both Perez and her daughter amounted to $2,030 (approximately £1,600). Court records indicate that Perez has a prior criminal record in Miami-Dade, though details of previous offences remain unconfirmed.
Which Disney Springs stores were affected?
The theft occurred across two popular Disney Springs shopping locations. Disney's Pin Traders, which specialises in Disney pin merchandise and trading, was where employees first witnessed the stealing taking place.
The incident concluded at the World of Disney Store, Disney Springs' flagship retail location, where the juvenile was detained. Both stores are located in the Marketplace area of Disney Springs.
What happened to the daughter involved?
The juvenile daughter was detained during the investigation, though her exact age has not been confirmed by authorities. Whether she faces any formal charges in connection with the Disney Springs pin theft arrest remains unconfirmed.
The case highlights the serious consequences guests can face for theft at Walt Disney World property, where security measures and surveillance systems are extensive across all areas including Disney Springs, the theme parks, and resort hotels.
